Vent: My color picker plugin lied to me for 6 months

I've been using this browser plugin that grabs hex codes from any website. Last week I matched a client's brand blue on a mockup and sent it over. They came back saying it was way off from their actual logo. I pulled the original site and compared - the plugin was showing me values that were 15 points off in saturation. Turns out it wasn't handling HDR screens properly. Now I have to recheck every color I pulled for the last half year of projects. Has anyone else run into this with color tools not working right on newer displays?

Handling HDR screens properly" explains a lot of things lately. It's like everything digital is slowly gaslighting us - my phone brightness keeps auto adjusting and I can't tell if my photos actually look good or not anymore.

Is it just me or did we all kinda agree to let technology mess with our heads? Susan @miller.susan you're spot on about the gaslighting thing. It's not just screens either. I noticed it with grocery store apps changing prices mid checkout, or my car radio volume randomly adjusting when I plug in my phone. Everything feels like it's doing its own thing, and we're just along for the ride. We spend so much time trying to figure out the device that we forget what we were even trying to DO with it. That auto brightness thing drives me nuts too, makes my photos look completely different depending on where I stand.
