Used to just grab random blues for my logos now I actually study color psychology
Tbh I never thought much about picking colors for brand work. I would just throw together a couple shades that looked nice together and call it done. But about a year ago I landed a gig for a local dentist office in Cincinnati and I kept sending them these bright aggressive reds. They hated every single one. Finally the office manager said 'we want calm trustworthy not urgent.' That made me look up color psychology for real. Now I start every project by thinking about what feeling the client actually wants first. Then I pick colors based on that. It saves me so much time redoing palettes. Has anyone else had a moment where a client basically taught you a better process by hating your first drafts?

Have you noticed how once you learn the psychology behind colors, it's hard to un-see bad palette choices everywhere? I started paying more attention after a similar experience with a client, and now I can't scroll through a website without judging their color choices. That dentist office story is a perfect example. Sometimes clients don't have the words for what they want, they just know when it feels wrong.
