Unpopular opinion: warm neutrals are way harder to match than bold colors

I was helping my sister pick paint for her living room in Portland last month and we grabbed what looked like a perfect beige from the swatch. Got it on the wall and it pulled so pink it clashed with every piece of furniture she owns. We ended up buying four different sample pots of off-white before finding one that worked with her gray couch. Has anyone else had a supposedly simple neutral totally betray them like that?

Used to think neutrals were foolproof but after trying to match a greige to my oak trim I completely get the struggle now. The undertones really sneak up on you.
