The week I accidentally used a desert palette for a beach wedding invite
I was designing invites for my cousin's wedding in Santa Cruz and grabbed what I thought was a sandy beige and ocean blue. Turns out I had picked a dusty tan and a burnt sienna from a project about Arizona canyons the week before. She called me and said the colors looked like a drought instead of a seaside ceremony. Switched to a cool aqua and soft cream and it felt like the coast again. Has anyone else had their brain mix up palettes from different projects without realizing it?

Oh man, I've totally done this. I was working on a baby shower invite for a friend who wanted soft pastels and I grabbed a palette from a Halloween party flyer I made. The colors were this weird muddy orange and dark purple. She asked if I was trying to make it look like a bruise. It's wild how your brain just holds onto those color combos and you don't even realize you're pulling from the wrong project. That must have been a frustrating call to get, but at least you caught it before the invites went out. Good call on swapping to aqua and cream, that sounds way more beachy. I'm still embarrassed about that bruise incident honestly.

You know, I used to think color matching was no big deal, just pick what looks nice and go. But reading stuff like this makes me see it's a whole different skill. I never really thought about how your brain can get stuck on a color combo from another project without you even noticing. That bruise story is hilarious by the way. I bet it's easy to fall into those traps when you're doing a bunch of different things at once. It definitely opened my eyes to how much thought goes into getting it just right.
