My grandma's 1970s paint chip collection beat my $400 Pantone book

Last month I was stuck on a beige for a kitchen remodel. My fancy Pantone book had like 50 tans and they all looked the same. My grandma heard me complaining and pulled out this old shoebox full of paint chips she saved from hardware stores back in the 70s. She just said 'try the one that looks like weak coffee.' I did. It was perfect. The real paint had way more depth and warmth. Now I'm wondering if old paint chip cards are secretly better than modern digital swatches. Anyone else find weird physical references that beat the fancy tools?
