My client's site palette went from 14 blues to 3 in two weeks and I can't decide if I ruined it
Two Fridays ago I counted 14 different blues on my client's homepage, everything from nav links to buttons to footer text, and it looked like a paint store exploded. I cut it down to 3 shades and the bounce rate on their pricing page dropped from 61% to 44% over the next 10 days. Now half our team says the site looks flat and generic, the other half says it finally looks like a real company. The argument is whether fewer hues made it feel calm or just boring, and I keep flipping sides. My gut says the drop had more to do with how clear the buttons got than any deep design theory. What number of core shades do you all actually stick to for a small business site, and does anyone have a case where going lean backfired?
