A print guy in Dallas said my palette looked like 'a hospital cafeteria' and he was not wrong
I used to build all my design palettes in a vacuum, just me and the color wheel at my desk in Dallas. Last month a print guy named Ray looked at my mockup for a bakery menu and said the colors felt like "a hospital cafeteria, not a place with bread." I sat there kind of stunned because he was right. My greens and grays were way too cool and flat. So I pulled 4 warm tones, a soft cream, a toasted brown, a faded red, one sage, and rebuilt the set from scratch. The menu finally looked like it smelled good, if that makes sense. Now I run every color set past someone who does not work in design before I commit. Has anyone else gotten a food comparison that stung but fixed your palette?
