Why I stopped being a coffee snob after visiting a diner in Ohio

I used to swear by third wave shops and would only drink light roast single origins. But last month I stopped at a random diner in Dayton and they served me a basic diner blend that tasted just fine. It made me realize I was spending $6 on fancy pourover when a $2 cup hit the same spot. Has anyone else had a cheap coffee that changed how they think about this stuff?

Just get a good quality diner blend and make it at home, it saves so much hassle.

Good quality diner blend" - wait, @bailey.sandra, you're telling me there's an actual diner blend that's consistently good and not just random brown water? That's wild, I thought every place just used whatever generic bag they found.

Totally get what you're saying, most diner coffee is just sad. But @bailey.sandra is right, some blends are actually pretty solid even if they're not fancy. I remember going to this little place in Ohio once, they had this dark roast that was so smooth I asked what it was and the owner just shrugged and said "it's the house blend." I bought a bag of their beans and it was the same stuff they served, no weird aftertaste or anything. Made a pot at home and it was exactly like being back at that counter. So yeah, there's some hidden gems out there, you just gotta find the right one.
