Update: the scoop in my $9 diner mug is not a tablespoon, and my pour over has been off by 2 grams for a month
I brew with a cheap digital scale I got off Amazon for like $12, and last week I finally weighed the scoop that came with my drip machine just to see. It's supposed to be a tablespoon, right? Scooped level it came out at almost 11 grams, but a real level tablespoon of the same beans is around 6. Everyone on here keeps saying use 2 tablespoons per 6 ounces of water, and if your scoop is fat like mine, that's basically double strength without you knowing. I did three brews back to back, 18 grams against 12 grams on the same grind from my $40 hand grinder, and the lighter one tasted like actual coffee instead of syrup. What gets me is how many people at my office in Akron call their stuff bitter when I think they're just overdosing the basket. So weigh your scoop once, write the number on a sticky note, and tape it to the lid. If your mug scoop turned out weird too, what did yours come in at?
