The day I realized I was grinding beans wrong for 5 years

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last month, waiting for my pour over. The barista handed me my cup and I took a sip, you know, like you do. And then I saw him grinding the next batch. He was doing these short little pulses on the grinder, not just holding the button down. I asked him about it and he said holding it down makes the burrs heat up and messes with the flavor. I had been holding my grinder button down the whole time, every morning, making my beans taste like burnt rubber essentially. I felt like an idiot honestly. Has anyone else had that moment where you find out you've been doing some basic step completely wrong for like half a decade?

LOL I was using pre-ground for 3 years before a friend roasted me in public.

Honestly, the "roasted me in public" part is so real. I had a friend who literally made me grind beans at his kitchen table before he'd even let me try his pour-over setup. It was like a harsh intervention but I'm so glad he did it, the difference is night and day even with a cheap grinder.
