Spent 45 minutes trying to dial in a pour over because my kettle was off by 10 degrees
Got a new thermometer for Christmas and found out my old electric kettle was reading 195 when it was actually closer to 185. That explains why every single Ethiopian bean I tried tasted like sour grass clippings for the last 3 months. Has anyone else had a thermometer go bad on them without noticing?

@grant_torres might have a point about cheaper kettles, but a full 10 degrees is a pretty big swing. That alone could mess up a delicate Ethiopian roast. Real shame you lost three months of good coffee to a faulty thermometer.

Honestly I think 10 degrees is within the margin of error for MOST kettles unless you're dropping serious cash. My $40 one fluctuates like crazy and my coffee still tastes fine. Maybe it's the beans or your technique more than the temp?
