Spent $300 on a fancy espresso machine and now I'm wondering if my old $20 Moka pot was better

I dropped $300 on a Breville Bambino last month hoping to save money on cafe runs, but the shots come out bitter half the time. My old Moka pot never let me down. Who else has regretted a coffee upgrade or found it totally worth it?

@verac49 Is it really user error or just bad design? I've had the same issue with expensive machines being too fussy for no reason. Sometimes the old stuff just works better.

...and honestly I think a lot of it comes down to user error more than the machine itself. I read somewhere that most home espresso setups need a decent grinder and fresh beans way more than a fancy price tag. The Moka pot is forgiving because it's basically a set it and forget it deal, but espresso has like a million variables that can go wrong. Give it a few more tries with some local beans ground right before you pull the shot, your mileage may totally change.
