PSA: A barista at Blue Bottle in Austin told me to stop using tap water for pour overs

I was chatting with this guy named Marco at Blue Bottle on South Congress last weekend and he said my water was ruining my coffee before I even started. He explained that tap water in Austin has too much chlorine and minerals that mute flavor. I spent $25 on a simple filter pitcher and the difference in my morning brew is honestly ridiculous. Has anyone else tried adjusting their water and noticed a big change?

Damn, $25 for a filter pitcher? That's wild cheap for something that actually works. Broke my old Britta last month and been meaning to grab another one, maybe I should stop being lazy about it.

Goodness, $25 for a water filter? That seems like a small price if it really makes that much of a difference. I've been using simple bottled spring water for my morning brew and never even thought about the tap water being a problem. Might have to give one of those pitchers a try myself, especially since we have that same chalky Austin water here in my neighborhood.
