My grinder died mid pour over on a Tuesday, and the backup plan tasted like regret
I was halfway through a pour over for my wife's birthday breakfast when my 6 year old burr grinder just quit, no warning, mid grind. I stood there at 7am with a half full hopper and a kettle at 205 degrees, so I grabbed the cheap blade grinder we keep for spices and figured close enough. It was not close enough, the cup came out muddy and uneven, and my wife (bless her) drank it anyway while I sulked. I ended up driving to the shop on 9th that afternoon and they told me the motor was shot and repairs would run $85. Instead of fixing it I went home, hand ground 40 grams with a mortar and pestle just to prove a point, and it took me 20 minutes and my wrist hated me. Has anyone else had a grinder die at the worst possible time, and what did you do in the moment?
