My cheap blade grinder versus a friend's burr grinder was a total wake-up call
I always used a $25 blade grinder from the big box store, but my buddy let me borrow his Baratza Encore for a week. The difference in my morning cup was huge, way less bitter and way more flavor from the same beans. Anyone have a good budget burr grinder they'd recommend?

Totally agree with angela_wilson78 on the cleaner taste thing. That even extraction from a burr grinder really lets you taste what the bean can actually do instead of just getting bitter dust.

Hold up, you're blaming the tool and not the user. I used a blade grinder for years and made great coffee. The problem is people don't shake the grinder while it's running. You get a way more even grind that way. That Encore is nice, but it's a lot of money for a small upgrade. Most of the taste is in the beans and how you brew it anyway.

Shaking the grinder IS a game changer, @wadepalmer, I saw a video about that trick. But man, switching to a burr grinder was a huge step up for me, the coffee just tastes cleaner.
