My brother-in-law said to never buy pre-ground coffee from the grocery store
He told me this about a year ago, and I thought he was just being snobby. I kept buying the big can of ground coffee for my drip machine. Then, for my birthday, he got me a cheap blade grinder and a bag of whole beans from a local roaster in Portland. The difference was insane. The coffee tasted so much brighter and less bitter. I feel like I wasted a whole year on stale coffee. Has anyone else made the switch and been totally surprised?

Right? It's a total game changer. Wait until you try a burr grinder, the flavor gets even MORE specific.

Seriously though, that flavor gets too specific. My buddy can now taste "hints of regret and a mortgage payment" in his morning cup. It's a slippery slope.

Call that pour-over "regret-roast" with a side of existential dread. Your buddy needs to switch to instant and save his taste buds the trouble. Burr grinders just unlock flavors you didn't ask for.
