Just realized my old drip machine made better coffee than I thought
I found my old Mr. Coffee machine in the basement last month and decided to give it a try for old times' sake. I used the same fresh beans I grind for my pour over, expecting a weak and bitter cup. To my surprise, it was smooth and balanced, maybe because the water was never quite hot enough to get all the harsh notes out. Has anyone else had a weirdly good result going back to a simpler way of making coffee?

Totally get that. I had the same thing happen with a cheap old percolator I used at a cabin. It made this weirdly mild, almost sweet coffee with beans that usually taste way too strong in my french press. Maybe the slower brew just pulls out different stuff?

Remember my grandpa's percolator, mark_hunt, it made coffee taste like dirt water.

My buddy Dave found an old percolator at a thrift store and it made the best cup he ever had.
