I was grinding my beans right before brewing for years, until a guy in line at the roastery said it was making my coffee taste flat.

He mentioned that ground coffee loses a lot of its flavor in just 15 minutes. I started grinding right into the portafilter and sealing the rest immediately, and the difference was huge. Do you think pre-grinding is the biggest flavor killer for home setups, or is there something else we all get wrong?

That "flavor in just 15 minutes" thing is SO real. My buddy used to grind a whole bag on Sunday for his whole week. His coffee always tasted like sad brown water, and he could not figure out why. He was using great beans and a good machine. The moment he switched to grinding right before each cup, it was like a totally different drink. All those bright, fruity notes he paid for finally showed up.

Switched to single dose grinding, fixed my stale coffee problem.
