Hot take: expensive single-origin beans aren't always better than a solid blend

I overheard a guy at the shop in Austin last week arguing that blends are just for covering up bad roasting and it got me thinking who actually wins in a blind taste test has anyone here done one?

I'd probably fail a blind taste test even if I was just choosing between cold brew and battery acid. At this point my coffee palate is basically "hot brown liquid that makes me function.

Heard some coffee scientist on a podcast say most people can't tell the difference between specialty beans and grocery store stuff once you add cream and sugar. Made me feel better about chugging whatever's cheapest at the bodega. Cold brew is just overpriced iced coffee in my book anyway. Battery acid probably has more kick so maybe that's the better option.
