Found a cheap fix for my espresso machine's steam wand issue

My old Gaggia started sputtering steam instead of frothing milk right when I had friends over for brunch last Saturday. I tried descaling twice with no luck, then a barista buddy told me to soak just the wand tip in a cup of hot vinegar for 20 minutes. Has anyone else had a similar problem fixed by something that simple instead of replacing parts?

Wait, pickles? @wrenh79 are you serious? I always thought the smell fades after you rinse it good, not that it stays around.

Vinegar tricked me into thinking I could fix things too. My machine still sputters but now it smells like pickles.
