Cold brew vs espresso, I used to think one was clearly better

I spent like 8 months only drinking cold brew from a local shop in Denver, thought it was the smoothest thing ever. Then my buddy made me a straight espresso shot from his little Rancilio machine and I couldn't believe the difference in flavor. Cold brew just tastes flat and one note to me now, like water with coffee hints. Espresso has this thick sweetness and a crema that changes the whole sip, even if it's bitter at first. I'm not saying cold brew is trash, but for my money, a proper shot wins every time. Maybe I just had bad cold brew everywhere, but has anyone else made the switch and never looked back?
