Bought a $200 'artisan' coffee grinder that turned out to be a total gimmick

I saw this fancy hand grinder online, all polished metal and wood, with claims it gave the 'purest grind.' I saved up and got it. The first time I used it, it took me 15 minutes to grind beans for a single cup, and my arm was killing me. The grind was so uneven, half the coffee was powder and half was chunks. I'm out the cash and back to my old electric one. Has anyone else fallen for a cool looking tool that just doesn't work?

Yeah, the whole "artisan" label gets slapped on anything now. My friend got a similar one, all brass and leather, that basically just crushed the beans. Made the worst cup of coffee I've ever had, tasted like dirt and metal. It's just jewelry for your kitchen counter.

Ugh, right? What even makes something "artisan" anymore? I had a friend with this beautiful wood and ceramic grinder that looked amazing, but it was so bad. It made the grounds all uneven, like big chunks and powder at the same time. My coffee came out so weak and bitter, it was such a letdown.

That exact grinder got me too. I took it apart and saw the burrs weren't even aligned right. If you're handy, you can sometimes shim them with a piece of paper to fix the wobble. But honestly, for the price you paid, you're better off buying a decent hand grinder from a known company. Return it if you still can and get something with a warranty.
