A barista told me my beans were stale and I didn't believe her until I tried her cup
I was at a shop in Austin last week and ordered their pour over, but I brought my own bag of beans to ask for advice. The barista smelled my bag, frowned, and said 'these are at least 3 weeks past roast, they're gonna taste flat no matter what you do.' I got defensive because I paid $22 for them, but she let me taste hers from the same origin and the difference was wild. I went home, checked my stash, and realized I've been buying way too many beans at once. Has anyone else switched to buying smaller bags every 4 or 5 days instead of one big monthly bag?

You ever notice how we treat coffee beans like they're gonna last forever just because they're sealed in a bag? That's the trap, man. I used to buy the giant kilo bags to save money and it took me forever to finish them, and I honestly thought coffee was just supposed to taste kinda dusty and bitter. Then I got a tiny bag from a local roaster and it was like a whole other drink, sweet and juicy and no weird burnt aftertaste. Now I just buy the small 8 ounce bags every week even if it costs a bit more, and I've stopped wasting money on beans that I'm just gonna toss anyway. Once you taste the difference, you can't go back, and honestly it makes the whole morning routine way better.
