Watched a proof come back green at a print shop in Buffalo and rewrote my whole export checklist
Stood in a small print shop on Elmwood Ave last Tuesday while the guy ran a proof of my poster and the blues came out looking like mint toothpaste. He flipped open Illustrator and there it was, my hex codes sitting in a file set to RGB the whole time. He said "this happens to like 3 people a week in here" and just clicked convert, switched the black to rich black, and suddenly the sky looked like sky. I had been exporting that same way for probably 40 files without noticing because my monitor at home is set so warm it hides the shift. Now I keep a tiny 2x2 inch test strip in the corner of every file with pure cyan, magenta, yellow, and black so I can spot trouble before it hits the press. Anyone got a good trick for checking grays, because that strip still looks flat gray to me on screen and I know it won't stay that way.
