Spent $60 on a color calibration tool for my monitor and it messed up my prints worse

I bought a SpyderX Pro last month thinking it would fix my screen-to-print mismatch, but after running it everything came out muddy and dark on the office HP laserjet. Turns out my cheap TN panel was never gonna match anyway and the calibration just threw off my workflow. Anyone else had a calibrator make things worse instead of better?

EXACT same thing happened to me with my old monitor. I spent like $50 on a used Spyder and after running it my prints looked completely wrong, way darker and with a greenish tint. It was SO frustrating because everyone online swears by those things. You're right though, a cheap TN panel just can't be fixed with software, it's a hardware limitation. I ended up just eyeballing it again and my prints went back to looking fine, the calibrator was basically a waste of money for that setup.

Buddy of mine had the same exact problem with an old IPS panel he picked up on Craigslist. Calibrated it twice and the thing just spat out garbage colors both times, he just gave up and adjusted it by eye finally.
