Realized I had been soft proofing wrong for like 3 years
I was in a print shop in Austin last month and the owner glanced over my shoulder and pointed out I had my rendering intent set to 'Perceptual' when it should have been 'Relative Colorimetric' for the kind of photos I was doing. Took him 5 seconds to notice something I never even questioned. Anyone else have a pro just casually fix a major blind spot in your workflow?

Did the shop owner explain why Perceptual was wrong for your particular photos, or did he just tell you to switch and move on? I've always wondered how much of a difference each rendering intent actually makes in real print jobs versus what you see on screen. Would love to know if you've noticed a big change in your prints after making that switch.

Stick with what the shop owner said and pretty much just told me to switch and move on @riley595, no deep explanation. But honestly since I made that change my prints match what I see on screen way closer, especially with dark shadows and bright highlights. Perceptual was compressing colors too much and making everything look flat.

Drove an hour to get a custom frame job and the guy spent ten minutes showing me how my horizons were crooked just by looking at my phone screen. He wasn't wrong either, I had been blaming the bad framing on the print shop for months. Sometimes you just need someone who actually knows their stuff to point out the obvious.
