Rant: the print guy in Dallas said my file was fine, then charged me $85 for a gray sky
I sent a wedding photo to a local print shop in Dallas back in March, and the guy behind the counter glanced at my screen and told me the file looked fine. I picked up the print a day later and the sky was flat gray instead of the soft blue I had on my laptop. He shrugged and said, "That's just how CMYK handles those pale blues, nothing I can do." I paid the $85 anyway because the couple was waiting, then went home and checked my file in RGB mode where it looked perfect. Turns out my blue was way out of the CMYK gamut the whole time and nobody warned me. Has anyone found a cheap way to soft proof before handing a file to a shop?
$85 for one print is kinda wild but is a gray sky really the end of the world here? Couples get photos with gray skies all the time, it's a wedding not a landscape contest. Sounds like the real problem is that you trusted a guy who glanced at your screen for two seconds instead of checking an actual proof.
