My cheap monitor and my good one showed two totally different greens, and the client picked the bad one
Had a client logo job last week with a deep forest green, and I checked it on my old $90 office monitor, looked perfect. Sent the proof, got the okay, then printed 200 business cards. On the real press and on my good calibrated screen, that green came out muddy and almost brown. The old screen was crushing my shadows so bad the color barely read as green at all. I ate the $180 reprint because of a monitor I bought at a going out of business sale in 2019. Pulled the old one off my desk that same afternoon and I will never proof color on it again. What is your cheap gear horror story, and did you have to pay for it out of your own pocket too?
