Hot take: my neon orange shirt printed looking like burnt pumpkin because I built the file in RGB
Sent a design to the printer in Portland with RGB values of 255, 100, 0 expecting bright orange, got back something closer to brown mud, and the guy said I needed to convert to CMYK first where that orange doesn't even exist in the gamut, so what hex codes are you all using for orange that actually survives the CMYK conversion?
Had the exact same thing happen with a job for a food truck client, sent 255, 140, 0 and it came back looking like wet cardboard. The sad truth is most of those bright oranges just dont exist in CMYK, the closest you can get is around FFA500 but even that shifts once ink hits paper. What helped me was picking from a Pantone bridge book first, then building the file in CMYK so there are no surprises when it prints.
