Debate: Do you proof CMYK on screen or bust out test prints every time?

I used to think soft proofing in Photoshop was enough to catch color shifts, but after a poster came back with muddy greens last month I'm not so sure lol. Is it worth the $3 per test print at the local shop or are you just wasting paper? What's your method for nailing it first try?

Test prints are worth it for stuff that's gonna be seen in person. I keep a calibrated monitor but still do one small proof for critical jobs, especially if there's a lot of dark shadow or bright reds in the design. That $3 saves you from reprinting a whole batch later...

Test prints are just fancy scratch tickets.
