A pressman in Baltimore handed me a loupe at a trade show in 2011 and I have not trusted a print proof since
I was at a print trade show downtown and this older guy running a booth just put a loupe in my hand and said look at these two reds. One was my RGB red on a proof, one was his CMYK red on the sheet. They looked the same to me until I put the glass on them. The proof red was made of tiny dots, and under the loupe it was pink and magenta and a little yellow mixed together. The printed red was way more solid. That was the day I found out my screen was lying to me in a way I could actually see. I bought a cheap loupe for $12 on the way home and I still keep one in my desk. Now I check every job at 10x before it goes to the printer. What do you all look at first when a proof comes in, the grays or the dark tones?
