That week I tested 17 cardboard versions of one medicine bottle cap
My hand hurt for six days straight from cutting foam and tape, but the 4th version with the wider grip is what finally got my grandma to open it without asking for help, so has anyone else found that spending a whole week on one tiny part of a mockup is somehow worth it?
Six days on one cap is overkill when a $5 rubber grip from the pharmacy would've solved the same problem in an afternoon. Prototypes are for testing ideas, not for burning a whole week on a detail that the end user won't even notice if you step back. That time could've been spent checking if the bottle itself was too slippery or too heavy, which is the real issue for most elderly hands anyway.
