My cardboard rig for a simple phone stand turned out way sturdier than the real one I bought

I built this rough L-shaped cradle out of corrugated cardboard from an old Amazon box, just to test the angle for watching videos in bed. The real $15 aluminum stand wobbles like crazy, but this cardboard version has held up for 3 weeks now without even bending. Has anyone else accidentally made a better prototype than the final product?

fr I made a better phone mount from a binder clip than any store bought one i've tried.

That 2-inch binder clip holds my phone better than any of those expensive suction cup mounts I've tried.
