Just realized my cardboard mockup of a spice rack was completely wrong after 2 hours at IKEA
I spent last Saturday building what I thought was a perfect cardboard prototype for a wall-mounted spice rack, brought it to IKEA to test the dimensions against their jars, and every single bottle was too tall by at least an inch. The thing looked fine on my kitchen counter at home but failed hard in real-world conditions. Has anyone else had a cardboard prototype fall apart when you actually took it somewhere to test?

That happened to me with a bookshelf once. I started cutting up cereal boxes and taping them together to match the exact height I needed, then I went to the store with a tape measure and a scrap piece of wood cut to the real dimension. Saved me a second trip and I felt like a genius. Not gonna lie, I still have that little wood piece in my toolbox for no reason.

Did you ever end up using that wood piece as a reference for other projects, or is it just kind of a permanent souvenir now? I feel like those little hacks become part of the toolbox forever.
