I finally got real feedback from a stranger at the makerspace, not just my wife
Last Friday I showed my cardboard mockup of a foldable workbench to a guy named Pete who was using the laser cutter next to me. He said the angle on my front panel would snap under real weight, so I reworked it with a V cut and an extra flap. Anyone else get better critiques from random people than from folks who already like you?

Pete's probably saved you like 40 bucks in plywood and a trip to urgent care when that thing collapsed on your foot. My wife tells me my stuff looks "nice" and then asks if we can use it as a plant stand, so yeah, strangers are way more honest. The laser cutter guys at my spot are brutal but they've fixed more of my dumb mistakes than anyone else. Got one dude to add a brace to my shelf that I would've never thought of, and now it holds all my paint cans without crying. Sometimes you gotta take the harsh words from a guy named Pete over the supportive silence of your homies.
