Had an old carpenter tell me to use hot glue for quick cardboard mockups instead of tape
Tbh I always thought tape was fine until I tried his way on a shelf prototype last weekend. The hot glue held the joints way steadier and I could actually test if the weight distribution worked. Anyone else swap out tape for something else on mockups?

My buddy Mike tried this exact thing when he was building a mockup for a bookshelf he wanted to make for his daughter. He had been using masking tape for years on all his test builds. He switched to hot glue after I showed him your post and called me two days later to say it was a game changer. The joints on his cardboard prototype actually held together when he put a stack of old textbooks on it. Tape would have just peeled off after a few minutes. He said the hot glue made the whole thing feel solid enough to even sand down the edges a bit.

No clue why I never thought of this either honestly. I spent years building cardboard furniture prototypes for my own apartment, and my coffee table prototype literally collapsed mid Netflix binge because the tape gave out. Hot glue sounds like it would actually give you that solid connection where you can lean on it or test the weight distribution without the whole thing falling apart. Plus I bet it peels off easier than tape when you want to break it down too right? Might have to steal your friend Mike's whole workflow here.
