My minimalist spread from 3 years ago still beats my fancy one today

Honestly, last week I went back through my journals from 3 years ago when I first started bullet journaling in Austin. All I had was a $3 notebook and one black pen, no washi tape or stickers or theme colors. My current setup has monthly trackers, habit wheels, color coded headers, the works. But flipping back, that old ragged page with just a simple task list and a dot grid felt way more useful. I spent 40 minutes last month designing a mood tracker and filled it in for exactly 2 days. Has anyone else stripped their layout back to basics and found it works better, or am I the odd one out here?
