My grandma's bullet journal comment hit me way harder than I expected

I was showing her my weekly spread and she said 'why do you need a special book to remember your life?' and honestly she had a point. Now I'm trying to find a balance between planning and actually living, but it's been 2 weeks and I still feel weird about it. Has anyone else had a family member say something that totally shifted how you bullet journal?

@rowan_thomas Your dad's comment about habit trackers hits a similar nerve, doesn't it? I actually see it the opposite way. For me, the book is not about remembering my life. It's about clearing my head so I can focus on living it. Without my weekly spread I'd spend half my morning trying to remember what I needed to do and end up doing nothing. The setup time is part of the process for me, like sharpening a knife before you cook.

why do you need a special book to remember your life" - that line really sticks with you, doesn't it? My dad said something similar about my habit tracker once, called it "a chart for things you should just do anyway." It got me thinking about how much time I spend setting up spreads versus actually doing the stuff in them. Honestly, I found a middle ground by just keeping a basic to-do list and a daily log in a cheap notebook, no fancy layouts or colors. It feels less like I'm curating my life and more like I'm just living it, you know?
