My bullet journal is a total mess and I think that's okay

All I see online are these flawless, colorful spreads that take hours to make. I believe a messy journal with quick notes and crossed-out tasks shows it's actually being used for real life. Why do so many people act like it has to be perfect to work?

Exactly, the whole flawless spread thing is just another version of social media vs real life. People post their clean kitchens but don't show the pile of dishes. They show a perfectly organized garage but not the crammed junk drawer. A journal that's actually useful is gonna have coffee stains and scribbled reminders, not just pretty handwriting.

Hey, didn't you see that article about "performance cleaning" before people take photos? @hollybarnes is totally right, it's the same deal. My bullet journal looks like a toddler got into it, but it gets the job done.

But I mean, come on, is this actually that serious? @the_shane's example of a messy journal that works is fine, but cleaning before photos is pretty normal. People have always wanted to look good in pictures, that's just human nature. Social media makes it more visible, but it's not some huge problem. We all get that posted stuff is often staged or cleaned up. So calling it "performance cleaning" feels like making a big deal out of nothing.
