Figured out a layout trick at a craft fair in Portland last month

I was wandering around this big craft fair in Portland last month and saw a girl using her bullet journal to track her sales. She had this simple setup where she used a tiny calendar in the corner and then a running list of what she sold each day. It clicked for me that I have been overcomplicating my own monthly spread for way too long. I used to draw out these huge habit trackers and mood graphs that took forever. Now I just do a mini calendar in the top right and a task list below it. It takes me maybe 5 minutes to set up instead of 30. Has anyone else found a way to cut down on the fancy stuff and just make it more useful?

A functional layout that takes five minutes to set up is more likely to be used consistently than a work of art that nobody wants to start. If the fancy decorations stop you from even opening the book, then they're not helping you track anything at all. Simple and boring but actually used beats elaborate and abandoned every time.

Isn't that true of most things, like diets or exercise routines?

The whole point of a fancy layout is that you actually stick with it because it's enjoyable to look at. Cutting it down to bare bones just makes it feel like a chore and you'll stop using it within a week.
