After 6 months I finally figured out why my monthly spreads always looked messy
Turns out I was drawing my lines with the ruler upside down, so the edge was slightly raised and my pen kept bleeding underneath. A friend watched me do it and just said 'why are you doing it that way?' Now everything looks way cleaner.

Wait, are you talking about those clear plastic rulers with the beveled edge? Because I did the exact same thing for like a year before someone pointed it out to me! I was using the side with the metal edge facing up and wondering why my lines were all wonky. Once I flipped it over and pressed the flat side down, it was like a whole new world of straight lines. I even tested it on a scrap piece of paper first to make sure I wasn't crazy. Now I always double check which side is down before I start drawing and my spreads look so much cleaner!

@janahenderson I read somewhere that most people actually use rulers wrong at first.
