Wasted $220 on a crowdfunded dungeon crawler that never shipped

I backed a Kickstarter for a dungeon crawler with miniatures back in 2021. The updates kept saying delays from shipping and mold issues. After 18 months I asked for a refund, but the creator went quiet and the project just died. I got maybe 30% of the minis painted before I gave up hope. That money could have bought 3 solid games off the shelf at my local shop in Portland. Now I only back projects from established publishers with a track record. Has anyone else lost cash on a crowdfunded game and found a way to get any of it back?

Man that sucks, I feel your pain. My buddy backed a dino themed board game back in 2019 and we still joke about it whenever we see a T-Rex mini. He ended up getting a random box of unassembled resin parts two years later, no manual, just parts. The creator blamed Brexit and then vanished off the face of the earth. We tried doing a chargeback through his credit card company but the window had passed. Honestly the only thing that helped was flipping some of the parts on ebay to a guy who does terrain building, got maybe forty bucks back. Its like paying for the lesson that crowdfunding is basically a gamble with extra steps.
