Vent: Why do people keep calling campaign games "legacy" games?

I was at my local shop in Denver last week and overheard two guys arguing that Gloomhaven is a legacy game because you unlock stuff permanently. No, it's a campaign game. Legacy means you physically destroy or alter components permanently, like in Pandemic Legacy where you rip up cards. I've been playing board games for about 6 years now and this mix-up drives me crazy. Am I the only one who thinks there's a clear difference, or does it not matter to most people?

Ngl I totally get that frustration, it bugs me too when people blur the lines between campaign and legacy games. Honestly the whole component destruction thing is what makes legacy feel special to me, so I'm with you on keeping them separate.

Eh, I think you're drawing a line that doesn't really exist. Gloomhaven's unlocks are permanent changes to the game state, you just do it with stickers instead of ripping cards. Same deal, different delivery method. Most people I've played with call anything with permanent changes legacy, and that includes the big campaign boxes.
