Unpopular opinion: the board game cafe in Portland had the worst setup I've seen
I went to Mox Boarding House last Saturday and noticed they had all the heavy strategy games shoved on a high shelf where nobody could reach them. Then I saw a group of new players getting handed Root as their first game and watched them give up after 10 minutes. Has anyone else run into a game store that just doesn't think about how they display stuff for regular people?

Mox is actually a great spot once you know the layout, but yeah that high shelf thing drives me crazy too. Root can work for new players if the host is patient, but whoever handed it to them clearly wasn't reading the room. They do have a decent selection of lighter games near the front, but the shelves definitely need better labels so people can find what works for them.

Has anyone else ever spent 20 minutes trying to reach a game on a high shelf and then just given up and bought snacks instead? Tbh, I'm not tall so I pretty much live in a world where anything above my eyeline doesn't exist. Ngl, I've definitely knocked over a display of dice trying to climb a shelf before, so maybe they're onto something with keeping the heavy games up high. At least until a clumsy person like me shows up.
