Took me 3 hours to learn a co-op board game rule I was doing wrong the whole time
I was playing Spirit Island with my group last weekend and we kept getting destroyed every single game. Turns out I misread the rule about how blight cascades - I thought it only spread to adjacent lands, but it actually spreads to ALL connected lands on the island. We had been playing it way too easy for like 6 sessions straight. Has anyone else found a rule they got wrong for way longer than they'd like to admit?

Blight cascading to all connected lands" yeah my buddy Dave did something similar with Betrayal at House on the Hill. He thought you could only explore one new room per turn instead of as many as you want. We played like 10 games where nobody could find the final omen because we were crawling through the house one tile at a time. Whole group thought the game was just painfully slow. One night he finally re-read the rules and just went quiet for a solid minute. We still give him crap about it.

Derek's buddy must have felt like a real idiot when that clicked. Those quiet moments where you realize you've been playing wrong for weeks hit different. How many hours did you guys burn through before somebody finally cracked open the rulebook?
