Serious question, how do you recover after a rulebook fails mid-game?

I was running a Dune game at a local convention in Seattle last Saturday. Someone challenged the spice blow rule and I realized I had misread a key paragraph for years. Has anyone else had to pause a game to crowdsource the correct rule from the table?

I told everyone I messed up, we house ruled it on the spot.
