I picked a heavy euro game over a quick party game for game night

Everyone always says party games work better for a mixed group, but last month I brought out "Brass: Birmingham" instead. Seven friends actually stuck with it for 3 hours and three of them asked me to teach it again next week. Has anyone else taken a risk on a heavier game and had it pay off?

Wait, someone actually fought over who got to KEEP the rulebook? That's insane, @kim.hannah, I can't believe that happened, that's like a unicorn moment for a heavy euro night.

I love that you took that chance with Brass: Birmingham, it's such a rewarding game once people get past the initial confusion. I did something similar with "The Gallerist" at my own game night and was shocked when four friends who normally only play lighter stuff ended up fighting over who got to keep the rulebook to study later. It really shows you never know what people are ready for until you actually ask them to try something a bit more meaty.
