Had a total meltdown trying to teach my parents Catan last Christmas in Omaha. The sheep jokes got old fast.

Teaching Catan to new players is tough. I found it helps to skip the jokes and just focus on the basic turn structure. Once they get that down, the rest starts to click.

Dude, I feel you so hard on this. I tried teaching my roommate last weekend and it was a mess. He kept trying to trade with the bank before he even rolled the dice, and then got mad when I said he couldn't build a road on water. I ended up just walking him through "roll, collect, trade or build, pass" over and over like a broken record. Skipping the jokes is smart too, I made one sarcastic comment about his placement and he sulked for a full round. New players really just need that simple loop to grab onto before anything else clicks.
