DAE remember when a game night felt like a chore? Our group's 6 month turnaround
Six months ago our Thursday game night had turned into a slog. Four of us would sit around my kitchen table in Fresno, and two of the guys would barely look up from their phones while we set up. Nobody wanted to learn rules, and we were stuck playing the same two games over and over because it was easier than teaching anything new. Then in March my wife suggested we try a rule where whoever brings a game has to teach it in five minutes or less, no reading the whole manual out loud. That one change made a huge difference. People started showing up with small box games instead of giant campaign stuff, and the teach time dropped to maybe ten minutes total per night. Last Thursday we played three different games and everyone stayed past ten, which never happened before. I'm curious if other groups have a rule like that, or if you just rotate who picks the game each week.
