DAE get super into a game's lore after a single play...

Last week at our game night, we played 'Root' for the first time and I ended up spending like 3 hours after just reading the faction backstories online, which my friend said was 'peak board game geek' behavior.

Oh totally, that's the best part! I did the same thing after my first game of Scythe, I just had to know why everyone was fighting over this weird alternate-history farmland. Next thing I knew it was 2 AM and I was reading short stories about the characters. Your friend gets it, that's not peak geek, that's just getting your money's worth.

Ever think about just buying the expansion books? They pack in way more lore than you'll find online, and it gives you something to flip through while waiting for your turn.

...i mean is it really that deep though? like you're flipping through a book between turns, cool i guess, but i'd rather just scroll my phone or chat with people. i get that some folks are super into the whole lore rabbit hole, but not everything needs a backstory. last time i bought an expansion book for a board game i barely skimmed it, and the game was just as fun without knowing why the red faction hates the blue faction. feels like people overthink this stuff sometimes. its a game, you push tokens around a board, you either win or you dont.
